Serving San Marcos & Hays County
San Marcos sits on I-35 between Austin and San Antonio, with Texas State University, a 38,000-student campus, at its center. The San Marcos River and the spring-fed pools at the Meadows Center give the town a year-round outdoor culture, and the outlet malls draw weekend traffic from across Central Texas. It is a young town in a fast-growing county.
All of that intersects with substance use in real ways. The college culture, the river-tubing weekends, the late-night bars on the Square, the high-functioning students managing course load with stimulants, the local working families dealing with the same opioid and alcohol pressures Hays County has seen for years. People do not always talk about it. We do.
Our office on CM Allen Parkway, a few minutes from campus and just off I-35, is built for that. Day and evening IOP, confidential intake, and a clinical team that understands both the college population and the longtime San Marcos community.

Our Programs in San Marcos
Recovery is not one program, it is a sequence. Our care moves from Foundational Care through a Bridge of Care to Transformational Care, with the right level of structure at each step. Step into the program that meets you where you are.
Build the foundation to create lasting transformation.Sobriety is the start. Flourishing is the goal.
PHP is the most intensive form of outpatient treatment at our San Marcos office. Clients attend 5 days per week for several hours per day in a structured environment. PHP includes individual counseling, group therapy led by master's-level clinicians, psychiatric care and medication management, skill-building workshops, and the Positive Recovery curriculum developed by Dr. Jason Powers.
Our IOP in San Marcos is designed for clients ready to return to work, school, or family while continuing intensive treatment. We offer both day and evening sessions. IOP meets 3-5 times per week and includes group therapy, weekly one-on-one counseling, family therapy, psychiatric check-ins, and the Positive Recovery curriculum that focuses on building strengths.
After IOP, SOP keeps one foot in treatment: a weekly group plus individual counseling. San Marcos clients often time it around semesters or work seasons until they are ready to move to aftercare.
Aftercare here means check-ins, counseling when you need it, and an alumni circle that spans San Marcos, Kyle, and Buda. For students, we also help bridge support across semesters and breaks.
Teletherapy runs IOP over a secure connection, same content, same cadence. Students home for breaks and rural Hays County clients use it to stay in treatment when the drive is the obstacle.
Family programs and counseling include spouses, parents, and siblings at whatever level you consent to. For Texas State students, we help parents stay involved without taking over, which is usually the harder skill.
What We Treat
A river town with a university brings predictable currents: tubing-season drinking that continues into winter, Texas State students mixing alcohol with study drugs, and fentanyl in pills sold as something else. We also treat plenty of working Hays County adults whose substance use has nothing to do with college.
Medical detox, when necessary, is handled at our Hill Country campus about an hour north, with outpatient care continuing here on CM Allen Parkway. Substance information:
Life in Recovery

Common Questions

We do not call employers, and for Texas State students we do not notify the university either. Anything released for FMLA or accommodations goes through your written authorization first.
Yes. Our IOP runs both day and evening programs, Monday through Thursday until 9pm. Many of our San Marcos clients are working in healthcare, education, the trades, or commuting up I-35 to Austin employers, and they attend evening IOP three to five nights per week. PHP requires more hours and is typically not workable alongside full-time employment without leave.
Yes. Our office is just minutes from the Texas State campus, and we see Texas State undergrads, graduate students, and recent graduates regularly. We can build IOP and SOP schedules around classes, exams, and the academic calendar, and we coordinate teletherapy continuity for students who travel home or out of state.
