George Joseph

Background

George Joseph has spent more than thirty years inside the addiction treatment field. Before founding Positive Recovery Centers, he served as CEO and owner of The Right Step for nearly twenty years, growing it into one of the largest treatment providers in Texas before its sale in 2012.

In 2017, he opened Positive Recovery Centers with a single guiding question: how do you build a treatment program that actually works for the long haul, not just the first thirty days? The answer became a clinical model built around character strengths, positive psychology, and the science of what helps people stay sober after they leave the building.

Recognition

Early in his career, George was named Counselor of the Year in 2000, a recognition that came directly from his clinical work with clients in early recovery. More recently, the Houston Business Journal named him one of the city's Most Admired CEOs for his leadership building Positive Recovery Centers into a network now serving more than twenty Texas communities.

Approach to Treatment

George works closely with Dr. Jason Powers, Chief Medical Officer, to translate the science of positive psychology into a clinical program every counselor at Positive Recovery uses with every client. The curriculum focuses on identifying and building each client's character strengths and resilience, rather than only treating addiction as a deficit to fix.

That clinical philosophy shapes everything from how groups are run to how alumni stay connected after discharge. The goal, in George's own framing of it, is not just to get someone through detox or through outpatient. It's to give them the tools, the relationships, and the sense of purpose that make long-term recovery the actual outcome.

At Positive Recovery Centers

Today George leads a clinical and operational team across more than twenty Texas locations spanning Houston, Austin, the Hill Country, and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The network includes medical detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programming, sober living, and aftercare, all built on the same Positive Recovery curriculum.

Under his leadership, Positive Recovery Centers became the world's first Joint Commission-accredited drug and alcohol rehab program built on positive psychology, a credential that signals to families, referring clinicians, and insurance partners that the program meets the highest national standards for safety and quality.
