Learning How to Live a New Life
Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing disease of the brain, so there is no single cure and drug rehab isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. However, with the right outpatient treatment services and ongoing support in recovery, everyone can achieve lasting recovery and fulfillment in a life of sobriety. Aftercare isn’t just an add-on—it’s an essential part of that journey.
“Recovery from drug and alcohol addiction is a process that continues long after rehab is over. While a recurrence of symptoms (or relapse) may be a part of this process for you, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed or that treatment hasn’t been effective.“
George Joseph, CEO
A large part of maintaining your sobriety after rehab is learning how to live a new life in recovery by continuing to work on the coping skills and healthy habits you learned in rehab. This is a process that requires personal commitment, time, and support from peers and professionals.
Transitioning out of rehab comes with its own set of challenges and even the most dedicated and hard-working individuals will need ongoing support and help to make this adjustment. Learning how to sustain a new lifestyle may seem daunting, but anyone can remain sober with the right support.
What is Aftercare?
Aftercare is an essential part of the treatment process that is often necessary for lasting, long-term sobriety.
Positive Recovery Centers provides weekly group meetings for clients who are enrolled in Aftercare. Each meeting is facilitated by counselors and is hosted in a safe and comfortable clinical environment.
Depending on a client’s personal treatment needs, Aftercare may last several weeks, months, or years and require weekly attendance. Our staff may also provide monthly progress reports to employers or licensing boards when required. Each client’s Aftercare plan is individually designed to meet his or her personal needs. This provides an effective roadmap to help each individual meet his or her recovery goals.
Formal Aftercare services at Positive Recovery Centers can also be supplemented with self-help groups, local 12-Step group attendance, and volunteer activities. Regular involvement in these activities connects clients to other people who share similar goals, values, and life experiences, which further enriches life in recovery.
